Panic, Anxiety, and Depression - Suspect A Problem?
So you have a suspicion that you might be experiencing panic, anxiety, or depression ... now what? Well, for certain, seek out a qualified and competent health care professional to talk to, to receive a complete physical exam from (to rule out any physical problems that may be causing your panic, anxiety, and depressive symptoms), and to describe to him/her just what you are experiencing. Be as descriptive as possible (I know it's hard to talk about) so that the health care professional gets a good idea of what you are enduring. As smart as some doctors and therapists are, some may not diagnose panic, anxiety, and/or depression when in fact that is what is going on. So be sure to explain as well as you can what you are feeling ... physical symptoms and sensations and psychological/emotional feelings.
Another good idea is to educate yourself about panic, anxiety, and depression. Once a person knows just what is going on with these conditions, the fear of "what's happening to me?!" eases up. You are reminded, in learning of these conditions, that you are experiencing normal things, things that millions of other people have experienced, things that do not denote that you are "going crazy". When you have the chance to understand what your body is doing and why it's doing what it is doing during panic, anxiety, or depression, some of your fears can subside, when you understand what's going, why it's going on, and when you understand that what you are experiencing will not harm you or identify you as having an extreme and untreatable problem.

And speaking of which, panic, anxiety, and depression are very treatable - remember that! They are far more easily treatable than some other mental and emotional difficulties and the range of treatment options is very wide. Therefore, I hope you can take heart in knowing that indeed you can receive recovery from these conditions.
